Through our coaching, you might learn why your garden has struggled in the past – like a lack of sunlight or annual soil care. We hope is that whether you’re building a garden from scratch or renovating an existing space, you become a more confident and informed gardener.

My garden always gets eaten by animals. Can this course help me?

This course includes several resources on fencing and pest protection, especially for raised bed gardens. We have experience working with pest and animal pressure in urban backyards, and have trusted solutions to help you enjoy the fruits of your garden.

Do I need prior gardening experience?

We welcome beginners to the homegrown food movement! Our garden planning system starts from the ground up, and even includes resources for planting crops if this is your first time having a garden. I have a small (and/or shady) backyard. Can I still grow my own food?

Although we typically recommend placing an edible garden in full sun if possible, you can adapt your garden’s planting plan to accommodate shade by growing herbs and greens. One benefit of raised bed gardens is that their layouts are customizable and can be made to fit almost any space! We have even built narrow patio-side gardens in the past.

I live in a different climate/gardening zone. Is this course still relevant to me?

Many of these videos focus on designing garden infrastructure, from raised beds to irrigation and fencing. The planting video provides a general overview on how to select plants for your garden, which will depend on your climate as well as your garden. Take what’s relevant to you and adjust some factors – like how frequently you water your garden – as needed based on your climate.
