Position Summary

As an Installation Team Member at Backyard Eats, you’ll help bring dream gardens to life—transforming bare yards into thriving, edible landscapes that feed and inspire. This is a hands-on, craft-based role where you’ll blend teamwork and practical skill to build high-quality garden systems for appreciative clients throughout the Philadelphia area.

You’ll gain real experience across a wide range of disciplines including carpentry, irrigation, stonework, horticulture, garden design, and project management. From building raised beds and trellises to laying out irrigation and fencing, every project is a chance to learn, grow, and take pride in something you created with your own hands.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, values craftsmanship, and wants to be part of a purpose-driven team. You’ll see the direct impact of your work each day and help deliver meaningful experiences to families, schools, and communities.

At peak planting times, you may also assist with seasonal planting and garden maintenance alongside the rest of the Backyard Eats team—giving you a full-circle view of our food gardening systems from installation to harvest.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

As an Installation Team Member at Backyard Eats, you’ll be part builder, part artist, and part ambassador for a more homegrown way of living. You’ll help transform underused backyards into beautiful, productive food gardens that enrich the lives of families, schools, and communities across the Philadelphia region.

You’ll work alongside a close-knit team of skilled installers, craftspeople, and designers to create functional, high-end garden spaces from the ground up—literally. Every day will bring a new location, a new challenge, and the satisfaction of building something meaningful with your own hands.

Here’s what your role will include:

Every Day

  • Build custom garden installations from start to finish—laying out beds, installing irrigation, fencing, trellising, and more—based on proven Backyard Eats designs and systems.
  • Start your day at our Flourtown shop, then travel in a company vehicle to client sites throughout the area.
  • Represent Backyard Eats professionally in the field, communicating clearly with clients and office staff to ensure smooth projects and excellent service.

Every Week

  • Participate in weekly team meetings to share ideas, coordinate logistics, and stay aligned with company priorities.
  • Coordinate with the Office Manager to optimize your schedule and keep client communication running smoothly.

Every Month

  • Help maintain company trucks and tools—checking fluids, cleaning equipment, and ensuring everything’s job-ready.
  • Meet with the Installation Foreman for performance reviews, support, and opportunities to grow your skillset and role.
  • Pitch in with seasonal planting or maintenance work when needed—it’s all part of being a collaborative, adaptable team member.

You’ll also contribute to general shop tasks and have the opportunity to work on exciting seasonal and community projects.
