Edible Garden Sales & Business Development
Position Title: Edible Garden Sales & Business Development
Schedule: Full-Time
Overview: In this role, you will be the gateway to our custom homegrown food experiences. You will guide potential and existing clients through our proven process—leading initial consultations to uncover their gardening goals , helping them navigate custom planting plans , and identifying infrastructure additions to maximize their productivity. This role balances qualifying inbound leads, expanding our brand footprint through local referral channels, and touching base with existing clients to help them expand their gardens.
Requirements
2 years or more in similar sales related field
Valid driver’s license
Passion for sharing the homegrown food experience with others
Pay & Benefits:
Base Salary: $30,000
Commission: 7% on all new sales generated from inbound leads or existing client upgrades
Earring Potential: Expected target earning range between $80,000 – $120,000
Retirement: 4% company match retirement plan

Mileage Reimbursement: Personal vehicle use reimbursed at the federal rate

Responsibilities:
–Inbound Lead Management & Consultations: Own the initial sales pipeline. During the busy season, manage 12–14 discovery calls per week and conduct 5–6 on site client appointments
–Consultative Selling: Lead potential clients through initial consultations to uncover why they want a garden and what they need to succeed. Act as a trusted advisor, sometimes advising clients on what they truly need over what they expect.
–Account Management & Existing Client Relations: Proactively check in with existing clients to strengthen relationships and generate additional revenue by helping them solve new garden problems or add upgrades to their spaces.
–Business Development: Build relationships outside of standard inbound channels by network-building with localized referral partners, such as real estate offices.
–Expectation Setting: Project the true value of Backyard Eats and set proper expectations to build immediate trust and ensure long-term customer success.
Performance Metrics & Structure
-Agreed Metrics: Performance will be measured against transparent metrics rooted in historical company success.
-Meeting Rhythms: You will participate in weekly sales meetings to strategize, monthly overall check-ins, and biannual review check-ins.
–Team & Training: You will actively participate in company team-building and continuous proprietary training to stay an expert in our field.

Edible Gardener, Seasonal
Position Title: Seasonal Edible Gardener
Schedule: Full-Time Seasonal, Starts in late February, goes through June or September depending on role
Overview: This seasonal position provides hands-on exposure to the edible landscaping industry and is the primary feeder position into full time employment at backyard Eats. Seasonal hires are typically assigned to an installation or garden care position throughout the course of a busy season but will gain exposure to all aspects of the business.
Requirements
Heavy lifting (+50lbs) and physical work in hot & cold conditions
Valid driver’s license & ability to get to shop
Passion for sharing the homegrown food experience with others
Pay & Benefits:
$25/hr plus seasonal completion bonus
$60/month cell phone reimbursement
Mileage Reimbursement: Personal vehicle use reimbursed at the federal rate

Responsibilities:
-Assist with garden installations, including site prep, construction, and planting.
-Support ongoing maintenance of client gardens: weeding, pruning, harvesting, and seasonal care.
-Rotate through the shop and warehouse to learn materials prep and equipment handling.
-Gain exposure to scheduling, logistics, and light office/administrative support.
-Learn organic gardening practices and safe tool/equipment use.
-Work closely with experienced team members in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
-Contribute to the success of client gardens while learning the business side of edible landscaping.

Overview:
Are you interested in getting your hands in the dirt with professional gardeners from time to time? We have seasonal and short term demands sometimes and are always looking for folks willing to fill in during busy planting times or with other seasonal support. Join our team of professionals creating a new industry in Philadelphia. We design, install, and maintain attractive and functional gardens that yield high-quality fruit & produce in our clients backyards. We are a fast paced & growing business looking for long term employees to help continue to build Backyard Eats into a key driver in broadening the participation in the homegrown food movement for our employees, clients & communities.
Our install crews build the gardens, and our maintenance team plants and maintains them. We call it full service food gardening, and it has allowed us to deliver successful gardening experiences and change lives for hundreds of clients in the Philadelphia area over the last 8 years. We are looking to add to our team of gardeners and professionals.
Each position is an opportunity to work alongside skilled craftsmen, designers, horticulturalists, and professional staff and management to aid in building a custom, high end product for appreciative clientele. You will learn a lot about working in a small, growing business, with all its associated fun & challenges, as you help co-invent Backyard Eats. Employees that have worked out well at Backyard Eats are ones that are able to stick to the proven systems of our offerings and core values, while embracing change and co-creating improvements to our standards through a team and client-centric approach.
When considering seasonal roles, keep in mind that many of the passionate gardeners that occupy full time positions started as seasonal employees who were offered full time positions after their seasonal employment. Location
Our shop is located in Flourtown, PA. All employees arrive at the shop each morning and depart to work sites from here.
Trial Period
For every role, we include a 30-day trial period to get to know each other and decide if we are a good fit for each other.
