Social media & Marketing internship

We are looking for a Social Media & Marketing Intern through the summer months, May – August.

Our install crews build the gardens, and our maintenance team plants and maintains them.  We call it full service food gardening, and it has allowed us to deliver successful gardening experiences and change lives for hundreds of clients in the Philadelphia area over the last 7 years.

This position is an opportunity to work alongside our Marketing Manager and the rest of our employees connecting Backyard Eats with its current and future customers. We have a lot of needs both in social media management and traditional digital and print advertising, and are looking for a jack-of-all trades who is eager to dip their toes into many realms of the field. 

You will learn a lot about working in a small, growing business, with all its associated fun & challenges, as you help co-invent Backyard Eats.

There is the potential for being hired on full time after the internship is up..

Schedule: This is a full-time, seasonal position.  From May through August, the position would be Monday-Friday, roughly 8:30am – 4:30am.  Occasionally, we will ask you to work a few hours on the weekends. Start & end dates are flexible, but should be during that general timeframe.

Pay & Benefits

  • $15/hour
  • Cell phone reimbursement – $80/month (will use phone for work)
  • Personal vehicle mileage reimbursement
  • Tools other than cell phone provided

Job Activities

  • Daily management of social media platforms, Instagram & Facebook. Includes job site photography, wall posting, story posting, reels, engaging audience, boosting posts etc.
  • Design print & digital materials & ads
  • Work with our Marketing Manager and outside marketing consultants on pay per click ads and SEO spending

Although this is primarily an marketing position, any member of the Backyard Eats team will have the opportunity to participate in planting and maintenance tasks throughout the year including:

  • Sow seeds and plant fruit and vegetable starts according to a predefined planting plan
  • Maintain gardens with weeding, pruning, and training, and application of organic insect and fungal disease controls, and harvest produce
  • Learn to identify pests & diseases, critter damage, understand the needs and growth habit of almost 100 varieties of vegetable crops, and understand watering and fertilizer needs

Requirements (do not need all skills to be considered):

  • Photography experience
  • Graphic design experience
  • Print and/or digital advertising experience
  • SEO experience
  • Current or past marketing, social media or advertising curriculum/courses
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to get to shop and job sites (required)
  • Passion for sharing the homegrown food experience with others

Seasonal & Full Time garden installer Positions

 for the We are looking for seasonal help to aid in the installations of our gardens from March – July, as well as a new crew member to join our team permanently.

Our install crews build the gardens, and our maintenance team plants and maintains them.  We call it full service food gardening, and it has allowed us to deliver successful gardening experiences and change lives for hundreds of clients in the Philadelphia area over the last 7 years.

This position is an opportunity to work alongside skilled craftsmen and aid in building a custom, high end product for appreciative clientele. You will learn a lot about working in a small, growing business, with all its associated fun & challenges, as you help co-invent Backyard Eats.

There is the potential for being hired on full time after the season for the seasonal labor job.

Schedule: This is a full-time, seasonal position.  From the beginning of March through August (year-round for the permanent hire), the position would be Monday-Friday, roughly 8:30am – 4:30am.  Because we work outside, there is a chance weather would keep us from working, but there is typically plenty to do around the shop to prepare for the next job!

  • $15-20/hour

  • Personal vehicle mileage reimbursement if needed (we have our own trucks)
  • Tools other than cell phone provided

Job Activities

  • Build exceptional quality raised bed gardens, including wood beds, fencing, gates, trellising, soil, and pathways
  • Prepare and plant “foodscaping” installations such as orchards and food forests
  • Communicate and collaborate with production team and job foreman
  • Assist in inventory management, including ordering and preparation for future jobs
  • Learn to identify key areas for added value and process improvement in the business

Although this is primarily an installation position, any member of the Backyard Eats team will have the opportunity to participate in planting and maintenance tasks throughout the year including:

  • Sow seeds and plant fruit and vegetable starts according to a predefined planting plan
  • Maintain gardens with weeding, pruning, and training, and application of organic insect and fungal disease controls, and harvest produce
  • Learn to identify pests & diseases, critter damage, understand the needs and growth habit of almost 100 varieties of vegetable crops, and understand watering and fertilizer needs

Requirements:

  • Heavy lifting (+50lbs) and physical work in hot & cold conditions
  • Valid driver’s license & ability to get to shop
  • Passion for sharing the homegrown food experience with others
